I like how <a href=\"http:\/\/eckop.com\/about\/staff\/\">Steve Eckhardt<\/a> (great guy, btw, in case you&#8217;re looking for someone to consult with) summarized their different strengths: <em>&#8220;CodeV\u2019s Global Synthesis is an extremely powerful global optimizer while Zemax makes it easy to take control over the fine details of the merit function.  OSLO\u2019s forte is its C-like macro language that can do almost anything.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But please don&#8217;t ask me to comment on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.science-bbs.com\/157-optics\/a33a3851187725fc.htm\">these grumpy ramblings from over 10 years ago<\/a>.
