Trimming pipette tips
Posted in Tips
I saw Benjamin Judkewitz trim the fat end off of a pipette tip and stick it onto a 1 mL syringe to make a fine tip for the syringe (above). This is handy for precisely applying agar, dental acrylic, or other materials.
I’ve used these for years, and always cut the fat end off with a plain razor blade, which is at least as dangerous as it sounds. I didn’t mind myself, but now that there are people working for me, I care about their safety, and I don’t like training them to do something so unsafe.
I was in a pet store and noticed these dog nail trimmers (below) and thought I’d try them. It works great.
We are doing it too!
It works for plastic liquid dropper as well, and it is useful for rinsing surface during surgery,
and for dropping water under objective lens.
We use normal nippers, and it works OK, but good to know an alternative! Thanks!

Cool! Maybe Ben originally learned it from you.
